Make it fit your limit

This is a maximum, not an exact byte count. 1 KB = 1,024 bytes. Your result may be smaller.

Slide left or right to resize. The slider keeps original proportions; you can also enter dimensions below.

Optional dimensions preserve aspect ratio. If both are entered, the image fits inside that box.

How to compress an image to 20KB

  1. 1. Upload an image

Choose a JPG, PNG or WEBP image from your device.

  2. 2. Enter your maximum size

Use Maximum file size to enter the limit and select KB or MB. Quick picks fill common limits.

  3. 3. Adjust optional settings

Leave dimensions on Auto or use the resize slider and width/height fields. Choose the format accepted by your destination.

  4. 4. Start compression

Select Compress to your chosen limit. The tool searches quality first, reducing dimensions when necessary.

  5. 5. Check and download

Review the size, format and dimensions. Use Download Image to save the result.

Supported formats and features

A maximum, not padded bytes

A successful output stays at or below the selected budget. An original that already meets matching requirements can be returned unchanged.

Formats and dimensions

JPG, PNG and WEBP input is supported. Optional width and height form an aspect-ratio-preserving bounding box.

KB and MB units

1 KB is 1,024 bytes and 1 MB is 1,048,576 bytes. If a form uses decimal bytes, choose a slightly lower target.

Working with a tight 20KB budget

Small signatures, icons and simple graphics are better candidates for 20KB than detailed photographs. Crop unused margins in your source first so the limited bytes go toward useful content.

Try JPG for a photo and compare thin signature strokes at the final display size. A lossless PNG can need more space; keeping PNG may require fewer pixels. Do not reduce the required width or height just to satisfy the file-size limit.

This page starts at 20 KB, or 20,480 bytes. If the form means 20,000 bytes, enter 19.5 KB instead. A successful output is at or under the chosen maximum; complex images may lose detail or need smaller dimensions.

Need a different image-size limit?

For another limit, set a custom maximum in Compress Image to KB.

Good questions. Simple answers.

Can a full-size photograph remain clear under 20KB?

A detailed, high-resolution photo is unlikely to retain all its detail at this budget. Start with the required framing and dimensions, then judge the result visually. Use a larger permitted limit if available.

Is the downloaded file exactly the selected number of bytes?

No. Your entry is an upper limit. DocsReady never adds padding to hit an exact byte count; a smaller result is valid.

Why did my pixel dimensions change?

If lowering quality cannot reach the budget, this tool reduces dimensions while preserving proportions. Compare the final dimensions with your upload requirements.

Can a detailed photograph fit every small limit?

Very small budgets can require visible quality loss or smaller dimensions. The tool reports an error if it cannot produce a valid output within its safety limits.

Is DocsReady free?

All ten tools are free to use. No account or subscription is required.

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. These tools process file contents in your browser. Temporary previews and results use browser memory; Start Over releases their references. Downloads remain on your device.

Can I use DocsReady on mobile?

Yes, in a modern browser with image and download support. Use fewer or smaller files if a large job exceeds your device’s memory. Your browser controls where downloads are saved.
